Intro
This magnificent country park boasts one of the best vantage points in Lausanne. But the panoramic views are by no means the only attribute that attracts visitors. There is a tree here that is worth a visit all on its own. This is a unique weeping willow, situated some 50 metres from the manor house, that was planted in the middle of the 19th century.
After crossing the lawn, you find yourself at the foot of the trunk of this willow tree, whose branches, which trail on the ground through their sheer weight, gave birth to offshoots or runners. It is undeniably the arboreal gem of this property, which includes many others and is also evident in the elegance of the manor house itself, its farm, its orangery and its neo-Gothic dovecote in the extravagant style of a 19th century “folly”.
The main reason why the park is so well known is the presence of the Fondation de l’Hermitage, which occupies the old mansion and stages exhibitions on an international scale.
Also worthy of mention are the flower meadows, whether for a walk or a nap. Lying on the grass whilst contemplating the Savoy Alps and Lake Geneva, it’s difficult to imagine that it’s only a ten-minute walk to the city centre.
