Introdução

O Plaine-Morte (Morte Plena), acima de Crans Montana, encontra-se no Valais, na fronteira do Oberland Bernês, entre Wildstrubel, Weisshorn e Gletscherhorn (Glacier Horn). A planície é coberta por um planalto glacial, oferecendo diversão em esportes de inverno durante o ano inteiro.

The glacier plain on the high plateau can be reached by gondola and Funitel, the lofty glacier gondola from Cabane des Violettes in Crans-Montana.

It’s well worth taking a stroll to the summit for the views of the Rhône Valley and the side valleys of the Valais. To the south, a line of high Alpine peaks from the Mischabel across to the Matterhorn and on to Mont Blanc. Glacier hikes with a mountain guide are also available. There’s also plenty to attract skiers in summer, as Plaine-Morte is a year-round ski area.

How to get there:
Train to Sierre, walk (5 minutes) or shuttle bus to the Montana funicular, walk (15 minutes) or local bus to the Violettes-Bahn valley station, gondola and Funitel gondola to Glacier-de-la-Plaine-Morte
Views: Across the Plaine Morte to the Wildstrubel, the Niesen on the left and the Bietschhorn on the right, down into the Rhone Valley to Martigny with the entire Valais High Alpine chain from the Dom across to the Weisshorn, Matterhorn, Grand Combin and as far as Mont Blanc, to the west the Wildhorn and Diablerets
Attractions: The Funitel gondola is up to 150 metres above the ground in places, stroll to the summit for views over the glacier plain on one side and the Valais High Alps on the other
Food and drink: Valais platter, cheese fondue, Triple-decker grilled cheese sandwich
Accommodation: None at Plaine-Morte; Cabane de Violettes has 2 double rooms and multi-bed rooms
