Ceremony (Einläuten) | Performance by Martina Morger
Overview
Intro
by Martina Morger As part of STAGE Bregenz and to kick off the exhibition On the Street
First part of the two-part performance in public space.
Performance and multimedia artist Martina Morger kicks off the exhibition On the Street with her performance Ceremony (Einläuten). In the manner of a modern-day procession, she will make her way through the "Städtle" of Vaduz with a collection of bells, thus combining tradition and contemporary art. Doing so, Morger delves deep into cultural memory: for centuries defining elements of the rhythms and rituals of our society, bells become complex symbols in her work. Serving to mark the passage of time, they can also announce festive occasions, but also alert people to dangers. At the same time, they tell stories about places, streets and people. Inspired by an ancient legend from Balzers, Morger's performance creates a setting that melds past and present. Ceremony (Einläuten) is part of the series of Bella Bells that Morger initiated in Lichtensteig (CH) in 2023, with further instalments in Feldkirch (A) and Triesen (LI) in 2024. Morger will be bringing the exhibition to a close with her performance Ceremony (Ausläuten) on 31 August 2025. Einläuten and Ausläuten are an invitation by Martina Morger to experience public space in new and different ways.
