Harnessing the power of water.
Around 1350, the Freiherr von Kien, who owned Worb Castle, had the River Biglenbach diverted at Enggisteinmoos and the water channelled to the castle moat in Worb. This marked the start of industrial development in Worb: since then the clattering mills have given way to hi-tech power generators. No one could ever have imagined that this commercial channel would still be in operation 670 years later and that future generations would still be interested in it. And yet, together with the community of Worb and the landowners, the Worb history interest group has created a history trail all about it. There are 20 posts just waiting to be discovered between the butcher’s shop and the train station, telling the eventful story of this unique feat of mediaeval engineering. The information panels at each post can be seen in the documents below.
