Laus Bike
Overview
Intro
The ascent from Falens up to Lag da Laus is a real workout for the legs. At the top, take a relaxing break and enjoy the lake's wonderfully peaceful setting before tackling the sometimes technical and challenging descent. Several viewpoints along the way offer magnificent views over the wide valley basin.
Description
Disentis is characterized by the imposing Benedictine Abbey, founded around the year 700. The tour starts in the Alpine surroundings of the upper Surselva region. From the starting point at the Disentis/Mustér railway station (1,132 metres above sea level), the route follows along the young Rhine. A short stretch continues on the old Reichsstrasse – from Constance via the Disentis Abbey and across the Lukmanier Pass to Rome. Until you get to Falens, the tour also follows along the mountain 1 Alpine Bike route.
A connecting road climbs up to the hamlet of Laus (1,250 metres above sea level) with magnificent views over the valley. The route continues on a natural forest road and for a short while on a hiking trail to the Lag da Laus. The idyllic lake at 1,614 metres invites you to rest for a bit in tranquil surroundings. You have reached the tour's highest point here, and the descent can begin.
The return route follows the hiking trail towards the Caischavedra mountain hut settlement. This descent requires extra caution as the trail is very technical and only suitable for experienced bikers. An unpaved forest road then leads down to the hamlet of Cavardiras (1,133 metres above sea level) with the St. Antonius pilgrimage church dating back to 1662. At Cavardiras, you can once again enjoy the superb views over the wide valley basin of Disentis. Following the paved connecting road via Brulf (1,027 metres above sea level), the tour ends back in Disentis/Mustér.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
