Description

Starting from Le Noirmont railway station, the route climbs to the heights above the village before dropping through the dense forests of the Côtes du Doubs into the Doubs Valley. The trail first leads along the foot of the Les Sommêtres ridge, a popular place among rock climbers. Then you reach Chez le Bôle, where the views of the meandering river are breathtaking.

The descent continues to La Goule with its dam and hydroelectric plant dating back to 1894 – one of the first of its kind in Switzerland. The route then follows the Doubs to La Bouège, where a refreshment break beckons at the local inn.

The route then climbs back up to the Franches-Montagnes plateau and the hamlet of Les Prailats. Continue through open pastures amidst cattle and horses, some roaming free. The path passes the tiny hamlet of Peupéquignot, where the Auberge du Peupéquignot invites you to take a break. The views extend over the typical Franches-Montagnes landscape with fir forests, vast peat bogs, old dry-stone walls and extensive meadows while the Franches-Montagnes horses romp about in front of the terrace.

Finally, the route leads to Le Noirmont, where a visit to the Fromagerie des Franches-Montagnes provides insight into the steps involved in local cheese-making.

An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
