Fondation Pierre Arnaud
Overview
Intro
Alone the facade of this museum is extraordinary: 84 solar panels of glass cover the building of Architect Jean-Pierre Emery - with the surroundings, Lac de Louché and the Valais mountains mirrored therein. Inside visitors meet with an exhibition space of around 1000 square meters, upon which the unusual and changing exhibits never cease to positively surprise viewers.
Opened in 2013, the Fondation Pierre Arnaud aims to create a kind of dialogue between Swiss and European art. And the approximately 1000-square-meter exhibition space on two floors lures visitors with three new shows a year. The summer and winter exhibitions surprise with themes such as "Homme Noir - Blanc Homme" or "Der Teufel, die Feder und der Pinsel“ (the devil, feather and paint brush). Major Swiss collections are exhibited in autumn.
And it’s not only the exhibits worth looking at, instead the building itself that certainly merits a second glance: The roof of this strictly rectangular building, the conceptual makings of which are attributed to the local architect Jean-Pierre Emery, is decked out with 84 solar panels of glass. The shimmering facade thus reflects the pretty Lac de Louche and Valais summits - as the building merges with the landscape in which it lies.
