This is Gstaad

Gstaad is located in the southwest of Switzerland in the Saanenland of the Bernese Oberlands. Despite all its celebrity guests, the mountain village has retained its original heritage and is a popular holiday region in summer and winter.  

Discover Gstaad

Explore the car-free centre of Gstaad village with its cafes and wooden chalet-style shops. The Gstaad Dairy Käsegrotte is well worth a visit. Here you can purchase a backpack containing all the ingredients for an outdoor fondue. The summer highlight is the “Gstaad Züglete”, when the cows descend from the mountain pastures decorated with flower garlands. First-class ski resorts and day spas at Gstaad fine hotels beckon in winter.

The ten chalet villages of Gstaad

A total of ten unique villages form the Gstaad holiday region: Picturesque Saanen is home to living traditions and artistic handicrafts. Schönried with the Horneggli is the perfect choice for hiking. Lauenen has a pretty church and the enchanting Lauenensee lake. Turbach is a paradise for nature lovers. Feutersoey is the springboard to Arnensee lake.

Gstaad as an outdoor paradise

The area around Gstaad with its untouched nature and healthy mountain air is a magnet for fans of outdoor living. From spring to autumn, visitors are attracted by hiking trails, bike routes, via ferratas, bathing lakes and the highest wake park in Europe on the Hornberg. Gstaad’s winter scene is unbeatable with three ski areas, cross-country ski trails, winter hiking trails, tobogganing runs and an igloo village. After so much action you’ll need a break: the rustic mountain restaurants and alpine inns serve regional specialities such as Gstaad mountain cheese.

In and around Gstaad

You will find peace and quiet and untouched nature in the side valleys of Gstaad. Heading for the Pillon Pass, you will pass Gsteig with its pretty church and the “Bären” Hotel. Not far from the village, the spectacular Burgfälle waterfalls are an impressive sight. One cable car will take you to the Sanetsch reservoir, the other to Glacier 3000 with the Peak Walk and the glacier ski area.

Experience Gstaad for less

If you stay at least one night, the Gstaad Card lets you travel free of charge by train and bus between Saanenland and Simmental and enjoy a range of discounted experiences. You can spend the night inexpensively in the youth hostel or at the camping site in the neighbouring village of Saanen.
