This is Brunnen
Brunnen can be found in Central Switzerland, right by
Lake Lucerne and close to the Axenstrasse, the former route for traffic connecting north and south. The town is a popular excursion destination, thanks to its location by the lake and the surrounding mountains.
Discover Brunnen
Start the day with a walk through the village and past the
Föhnhafen boat station: Here, ships find shelter from a special natural spectacle in the Alps: the foehn with its capricious eddy winds and high waves. After a quick detour to the
Victorinox Store and a selfie at the
photo spot, you’ll board a
historic paddle steamer, at which point you will ask yourself what is more beautiful: the boat or the deep-blue lake?
Brunnen’s lakeside promenade
Brunnen’s lakeside promenade is considered one of the most beautiful in Switzerland. Here, you can let the panorama work its magic on you in all its glory. On the Othmar-Schoeck-Promenade, you will find your gaze wandering towards
Beckenried,
Vitznau and
Lucerne. You can reach the ferry terminal via the Auslandsschweizerplatz and the Waldstätterquai. From here, you can then look directly into the basin of Lake Uri, with the Schiller Stone natural obelisk and the Uri Rotstock in the distance.
The Swiss Path
35 kilometres of Swiss history around Lake Uri: this well-constructed
themed hiking trail begins on the
Rütli meadow, the birthplace of Switzerland, and ends in Brunnen. It connects sights such as the Maria Sonnenberg pilgrimage chapel, Beroldingen Castle,
Tell’s Chapel and the old Axenstrasse. You can spend the night between stages or hike just one stage and marvel at the others from on board a boat.
Around Brunnen
Famous mountain peaks, towns and villages steeped in history, and Brunnen right in the middle of it all. Only one landing stage away is the
Rütli. And it is just one cable car away to the Urmiberg on the
Rigi, which offers fantastic views. The steepest funicular in the world will take you up to the sun terrace of the
Stoos on the
Fronalpstock.
Experience Brunnen for less
Thanks to its central location, Brunnen is easily accessible by train, bus, boat or mountain railway. This means you not only travel sustainably, but also at a more reasonable price thanks to the
Tell Pass. You will also receive the digital
Guest Card when you stay in the canton of Schwyz for one night or more. This gives you discounts on mountain railways, and in shops and museums.
