Whether typical Swiss, Italian, Asian or other exotic culinary delights: You can find everything in Switzerland. The rich range of regional specialities tempts you to go on journeys of discovery. Top chefs transform traditional dishes into delicacies. Some of them have achieved world fame. Wherever you eat in Switzerland, you will enjoy it.
Lunch is usually served between 12 noon and 2 p.m., in some restaurants a little earlier. Dinner is usually served from 6 pm to 9.30 pm. Many restaurants and pubs, especially in the cities, also offer hot dishes continuously (from 11 to 22).
For vegetarians and vegans
No problem if you want to eat vegetarian or vegan: Either eat in designated vegetarian or vegan restaurants or choose individual dishes from the menu.
Tip: Not a must, but welcome
In Switzerland, guests are not obliged to tip. However, in many restaurants, it is customary to pay a tip. This amounts to about 10 percent or it is rounded up to a round amount.
How much does a meal cost in Switzerland?
They usually come off cheapest if you order a "menu of the day" in the restaurant at lunchtime, which usually consists of a starter (soup or salad) and a main course. In the evening, there are also some defined menus, which are a little cheaper than if you choose freely from the menu.
For a main course "à la carte" you pay between 20 and 50 francs. If you want to eat cheaper, fast food outlets or restaurants in department stores (e.g. Migros, Coop, Manor).
