The Chur City Council still holds its public meetings in this stately old building and the city archives are also housed here. It is a little-known fact that there was even a hospital in the Town Hall at one time.
Because of its irregular layout and the slanting ridge of the roof, the building seems to be all out of joint. That isn't the result of politics, though, but of the history of the building. After the fire in the town in 1464, the building was rebuilt and then extended and altered several times. The inside of the building, with its artifacts from various eras, also reflects the diverse history of the Town Hall.
You can enjoy a bird’s eye view of the Chur Old Town from here. There is an authentic model of the building in the entrance area. The arched hall, once the city’s largest trading centre, is frequently used as a venue for special occasions.
