Swimming in the Rhine through the historic old town
Overview
Intro
In summer, the Kleinbasel banks of the Rhine are the place to be! Only those that have ventured into the Rhine can truly understand the soul of the city. Thousands of people cool off by leaping into the refreshing water during the warmer months of the year.
Take note of the information boards on the banks of the Rhine, which offer some handy tips for swimming in the river. Only those who have indulged in this truly unusual pastime will understand why the Mediterranean seems so near here. A bright Wickelfisch watertight sack will ensure clothes stay dry while you are floating down the river. The two “Badhysli”, as the people of Basel lovingly call the bathing platforms on the riverside, are great for swimming. One is near the Johanniterbrücke bridge and the other in the Breite quarter of Basel. Relax on the sun decks of the Badhysli for that perfect holiday feeling. After a swim in the Rhine, stop off for a refreshing drink at one of the many buvettes on Kleinbasel’s Rhine bank, which are open from spring until the end of summer.
