Ouchy and its Lakeside Promenade
Overview
Intro
Life feels wonderfully carefree on the Ouchy lakefront. The vastness of the lake, the generosity of the boulevards, the soothing green of attractive parks and the majestic aura of stately buildings. And it’s no time at all until you find yourself amid such splendor - following a short descent from the station with the vertical m2 metro.
Whoever enters Switzerland’s only vertical m2 metro at the Lausanne train station, exits a few minutes later to find themselves in another world. Along the lakeshore, where a small fishing port once stood, a spacious quay bordered by large park areas and imposing buildings has taken over. And on the opposite bank you view the Savoy-Alps summits that rise sky-high. Those keen to be on the move can rent a pedalo or a bike; while those in search of a challenge can book water skiing lesson.
In Ouchy sights worth seeing are densely strung together: Here you have the historic Chateau d'Ouchy, the Olympic Museum and the Musée de l'Elysée museum of photography. In the Hotel Beau-Rivage park the famous dog cemetery is in hiding - and over 130 rose species blossom in the delightful rose garden.
