Ice palaces – the ultimate colourful spectacle
Overview
Intro
In the middle of nowhere in the dark night, colourful lights twinkle from the forest near Lake Schwarzsee. The lights will guide you to the impressive ice palaces, which look their best in icy temperatures.
The ice is most beautiful at the start of winter, when temperatures drop below freezing and it has not yet snowed. That’s when the ice palaces glitter like crystals.
Visitors start at the main square of the ice palaces, where there is a fountain, an iceberg with penguins, a large swing, a barbecue pavilion and the cosy “Yyschstùba” buvette. You can cook your own sausages on the grill and feast on a delicious fondue moitié-moitié in the buvette.
Visitors go through some impressive tunnels and grottos, climb up the steps and enjoy the view from above out over the ice palaces. For children, there’s even a high-speed slide. On their tour, visitors are greeted by numerous extraordinary ice structures, a nativity scene, or a rustling forest. Sundown brings out the true beauty of the scene, when the evening light bathes the ice palaces in a splendid wealth of colours. The entire circuit lasts around 20 minutes, but if you have children just loving the adventure of it all and lingering for longer at the various attractions then of course you may need longer.
