Description
Ambience:
“A winter hike is even better for us than a hike in summer”, proclaimed Thomas Widmer, a hiking columnist, and he couldn’t be more right: to trudge through the crunching snow, step by step, to breath the crisp air of the Alps, to possibly watch a deer at the edge of the forest and to then sit down in a homely mountain restaurant with red cheeks and a cold nose, it brings on instant recovery and lightens the mood of many visitors from the foggy and stuffy lowlands. The wrinkles on the forehead immediately start vanishing, a drooping mouth will start to smile, and after a couple of days, you will feel as fit as a fiddle and on top of the world. The restaurant with its panelled walls is cosy and warm and smells of wood, cheese and grilled dishes. The sun terrace offers unbeatable views of the Eiger, Schreckhorn and the Fiescherwand.
Location:
Located at an altitude of 1,918 metres, above Grindelwald on the Waldspitz. The restaurant is only accessible on foot or by toboggan.
Cuisine:
Cheese and dried meat platters, cheese on toast, various salad and pasta delicacies, cordon bleu or veal cutlets with chips, pork sausage with onion sauce and Rösti, wild game delicacies, fruit cakes, meringues with double cream. The host and chef, Nik Obrist, is also a butcher and passionate hunter.
