Dala Gorge - Thermal Springs Footbridge
Overview
Intro
Less than one kilometre from the village square, a thermal source footbridge crosses the Dala Gorge at Leukerbad.
Rust-coloured streaks on the rock faces bear witness to the iron content of the thermal water that trickles through cracks in the rocks of the Dala Gorge. It takes the thermal water 40 years to reach the earth’s surface. You can almost reach out and touch the powerful waters beneath.
A 600-metre-long thermal spring footbridge, which is suspended four metres above the river bed, passes through the imposing Dala Gorge and reveals interesting facts about thermal water. The imposing steel footbridge makes an impressive sight. A suspension bridge leads to a 35-metre waterfall where the true power of the water reveals itself. From there, climb two flights of steps to the upper reaches of the Dala Gorge, where an official hiking trail guides you back to Leukerbad. The circuit takes 75 minutes. The trail to the waterfall and the stairs are wheelchair accessible.
