Description
At just five kilometres, the thirteenth stage of the Way of St. James in Grisons is also the shortest. Starting in Tamins, it is worth taking a short detour down to the castle rocks in the Reichenau district, where the Vorderrhein and Hinterrhein converge.
Today, Reichenau Castle is characterised by the structural extensions from 1775 and 1820. It is impressive with its well-kept park, chapel and historical rooms.
You walk on a road for a short time. Gravel paths alternate with surfaced ones after Crestis. The path leads just underneath the motorway past meadows and pastures. If you look back you can see the picturesque church on the rock above Tamins, which was the only building to survive the fire of 1799 when the French burned Tamins down.
The pilgrimage route winds up onto a valley terrace where you can enjoy impressive views of Bonaduz, Rhäzüns, the valley to Domleschg and the canyon of the Rhine Gorge.
At Ruvreu, the stage passes a slightly exposed area, which is nevertheless made safe with chains. You finally reach the destination for the stage, Trin Digg, via the last pasture. The villages are located on the eastern slope of the wooded Bot da Fiena with a view of the Rhine valley and the Canaschal castle hill near Trin. There was a special building regulation in Trin Digg, which meant that old stone houses with their barns were arranged in small groups around the village square.
