In the Chesa Bar there is live music, while eating raclette becomes a whole new experience in the Carigiet Bar and Tavern with its bowling alley.

Description

This Romantik hotel was built as a work of art in 1938 by the top Zurich architect Hermann Schneider. He succeeded magnificently in blending traditional craftsmanship with creative contemporary art down to the last detail. Thanks to GIs stationed in the Chesa during the second World War, the hotel became well known in the USA and attracted famous writers and celebrities from the film industry, who soon lovingly dubbed the Chesa “Hollywood on the rocks”. Today, the tradition of warm hospitality is continued by Barbara Rios Guler and Marianne Hunziker.

Swiss Historic Hotel

The hotel was built in the Landi style, inspired by the 1939 National Exhibition. The original inventory is carefully preserved and nurtured. The restaurant is recognized for its architectural authenticity and its fresh market produce cuisine. Chesa is incidentally also known as 'Hollywood on the rocks': Movie stars, producers and directors from around the world love to stop in here for a bite to eat.

Special distinction 2000 Distinguished "for the preservation and the long lasting care of a traditional general work of art (from the interior design to the small items) as a manifest of high quality country style from the late 30s". The Chesa Grischuna was built in 1938, at a time when Switzerland was reclaiming its traditional style through the National Exhibition in Zurich. Architecture, interior design, loose furniture and everything else in the inventory were all designed by Hermann Schneider, a Zurich architect. The work was carried out exclusively by local artisans. Artists from the owner’s circle of friends also contributed some frescoes and paintings to the collective work of art. The history of the house is closely linked to detained American soldiers, who returned to the Chesa Grischuna after the war with their families and friends to create a “little Hollywood”. To this day, the hotel has never lost its unique atmosphere. In November 2019 the hotel was deservedly awarded the "Historic Hotel of the Year 2020" prize.
