Intro
This historical and well managed mountain hotel has welcomed guests for more than 150 years. Even Winston Churchill has once spent his vacation here. He “slept like a log” and, in his own words, “has never felt healthier than in this magnificent place”.
Information
Description
Ambience:
To this day, the hotel offers 23 simply furnished rooms. Many more visitors, though, will head on a daily basis to the Belalp’s extension, a purist, modern restaurant built in 2011. Inside it boasts floor to ceiling windows, outside a large sun terrace and always sensational panoramic views. After all, where else would you see the Aletsch glacier and the Matterhorn at the same time?
Location:
Close to the Aletschbord vantage point at the edge of the car-free Belalp, at an altitude of 2,130 m with views across the Rhone valley onto the Aletsch glacier and the 4,000-m peaks of the Valais. Cars stay in the valley: this holiday destination can only be reached by taking the Blatten-Belalp cable car.
Cuisine:
Valais delicacies, Swiss and international classic dishes, from cheese and dried meat platters, veal strips with Rösti, Swiss Riz Casimir or saffron risotto to cheese fondue. A highlight are the giant nut croissants – not to be missed!
