Val d’Uina
Overview
Intro
From the Lower Engadine one passes through Val d’Uina (Uina Gorge) to reach the Vinschgau Valley. The hiking trail, which is partly carved into the rock, is especially popular among avid hikers.
A nature trail leads slightly uphill from Sur En into the valley, of which the lower section already has a gorge-like character. A steep rock trail called “Il Quar”, which was blasted into the cliff, was built at the beginning of the twentieth century to access the Pforzheimerhütte. The 600-metre-long and extremely spectacular cliff path high above the river passes through the nearly vertical rock walls, offering a unique view into the depths. After leaving the gorge, you reach the pastures of Alp Sursass. From here, the hiking trail breaks up and leads to different destinations.
The impressive gorge can be explored on foot or by mountain bike. The Uina Gorge was, among other things, the film location for the adaptation of the famous Swiss classic “Schellen-Ursli”.
Getting there: By public transport or car to Sent, Sur En, from there on the nature trail into the gorge
