Via Alpina
Overview
Intro
Gentle climb alongside the Glisbach stream, through forest and moorland, over the Hahnenmoos Pass, then down to Lenk, superbly set in the Hinter Simmental basin, with spectacular waterfalls and the perfect backdrop of the Wildstrubel massif.
Description
Adelboden, a small village at the end of the Engstligen Valley, is a particularly popular destination for winter sports enthusiasts. Things are somewhat calmer in summer, when it is mostly just hikers and scouts about the place, the latter because of the International Scout Centre in Adelboden. The village also boasts a wealth of traditional wooden cabins with characteristic paintings and inscriptions.
From Adelboden, it is time to head up the Hahnenmoos Pass. You ascend through forests and moorlands. In the right wind conditions, model airplane pilots can be found flying their planes down to the valley. So, this is a good place to take a break, watch the aviation enthusiasts and stop for a bite to eat in the restaurant. Then head back down towards Lenk, with the option to complete half the route to the village by postal bus if you wish to shorten the descent.
