Crap Furò – the heart of Graubünden
Overview
Intro
Crap Furò is a Romansch name meaning "holey rock".
The rock towers up 60 metres above Surava, sheer yet delicate. A crevasse splits the rock face from top to bottom, forming a large hole 2 metres across near the top. For thousands of years, the wind and weather have shaped the tower of rock that is made of greywacke, a type of sandstone, leaving behind a rough, furrowed surface.
The Crap Furò is located just a few metres from the geographical centre of Graubünden. The ‘Pioneer’s Trail’ runs past the Crap Furò. A wide range of forest types can be found here in just a small area – a rarity in Switzerland.
