13th Eiger Ultra Trail
Overview
Intro
The Eiger Ultra Trail is an extreme event in the Jungfrau Region. The Eiger Ultra Trail is more than 100km long through the Jungfrau Region.
The Eiger 3970m and its north face fascinates both mountaineers and trail runners. In 1858, the local guides Christian Almer and Peter Bohren with their guest Charles Barrington were the first to reach the Eiger summit. The east ridge, called Mittellegi, was the first to be climbed by the Japanese Yuko Maki with his Grindelwald guides in 1921. The last problem of the Alps, the Eiger North Face, was climbed in four days in 1938 by Anderl Heckmair and Ludwig Vörg as well as Heinrich Harrer and Fritz Kasparek. Inspired by the Eiger myth, Grindelwald launched the Eiger Ultra Trail in 2013, opening the first ultra trail in the Bernese Oberland.
With the stage locations Grosse Scheidegg, First, Berghotel Faulhorn, Schynige Platte, Wengen, Männlichen, Kleine Scheidegg and the traverse under the Eiger North Face, not only spectacle but unique mountain ambience is offered. With 101 kilometers as well as 6700 meters of altitude, the route E101 is considered a tough test for every participant and every participant.
