Rheinfelden city parks
Overview
Intro
The stately trees and broad promenade are picture perfect at any time of the year. All three of the parks in Rheinfelden are popular spots for snapping photos as they are located directly on the Rhine and offer a wonderful view of the old town.
Island / stronghold
The small island on the Rhine is a lovely park with a view of the Rhine and the old town. It was once home to the Counts of Rheinfelden.
In the middle of the old town, the Rheinbrücke bridge crosses over to the town’s sister town in Germany. But first it leads to the former stronghold of the lords of Rheinfelden. Today the island has been given over entirely to the park, and only the 4-piece artwork by Christina Fey reminds us of its royal past. In the middle of the park is a lovely water fountain from which you can enjoy a panoramic view of the old town and the Rhine. If you go in the afternoon, you might even catch a glimpse of the river cruisers from Basel docking.
Follow the stairway down and you’ll find another park with trees that, depending on the water level, make way for a pretty sandy beach. This makes the island a popular place for swimming in the Rhine in the summer.
Stadtpark West and Buvette Rhybar
Stadtpark West, with its towering trees and green spaces directly on the Rhine, is a popular spot for taking a stroll, enjoying a picnic or stopping by at the Buvette Rhybar for a drink. The stately trees and broad promenade are picture perfect at any time of the year. The park is a popular spot for snapping photos as it is located directly on the Rhine and offers a wonderful view of the old town. Locals and visitors alike come to the park in the afternoons and evenings to relax and recharge. In the summer, Buvette Rhybar offers small menus for lunch and refreshing drinks all day long for thirsty parkgoers.
For those exploring the city, there is also a fitness trail and a bowling alley with playground that are freely accessible and free of charge.
Stadtpark Ost with steps down to the Rhine
It gives you that holiday feeling: the sandy beach with a view of Rheinfelden’s old town is a popular swimming spot, a green relaxing retreat and a starting point for stand-up paddling tours. The broad meadow that leads directly to the Rhine has enough space for everyone to relax and soak up the sun. The vast expanse is also ideal for picnics and playing badminton. People swimming in the Rhine with their swimming bags and stand-up paddlers use the steps here as a meeting point. On hot summer days there’s nothing better than taking a refreshing dip and then drying off on the sandy beach with its wonderful view of the old town. The Rhybar Kiosk has cold drinks so that its guests can cool off, and at the back of the city park there is a large playground for the little ones.
