Hammetschwand lift and Felsenweg path
Overview
Intro
The 152.8 meter-high lift to the Bürgenstock looks like a heaven-bound rocket. And views from Hammetschwand over Lucerne and its lake are best described as heavenly!
Warning! Before you make the trip, check if the Felsenweg and the Hammetschwand Lift are open. Find more information here.
The Felsenweg path begins in the middle of the Bürgenstock Resort, between the chapel and Parisa – Persian Cuisine. Along the path, twelve panels tell the impressive story of the Bürgenstock Resort. Over 150 years ago, two visionary friends, Bucher and Durrer, discovered the Bürgenberg and soon opened the first hotel. Their boundless pioneering spirit led to extraordinary technical achievements: the first funicular railway in Switzerland, the highest and fastest open-air lift in Europe, a revolutionary hydroelectric power plant, and the Felsenweg path itself. A story full of success, innovation, and incredible visions – don't miss this truly breathtaking story. All information is available via mobile phone.
The lift along the rock face has been the fastest way to the "highest viewpoint in the city of Lucerne" since the beginning of the last century: from the valley station inside the rock, it takes just under a minute to reach fresh air again. In the summer, the lift tower is illuminated at night and is easily visible from Lucerne. From Hammetschwand (already in the canton of Nidwalden), hiking trails lead back to the Bürgenstock Resort on Lake Lucerne, or you can return via the "Känzeli" along the Felsenweg path.
