Funicular Treib-Seelisberg
Intro
The funicular takes guests from the Treib landing stage in 8 minutes to the Seelisberg plateau, a popular vantage point. The mountain station is located on the “Swiss Path” leading to Rütli or Bauen. A variety of sights can be reached from the station in no time at all. The Treib–Seelisberg train connects with the PostBus to Beckenried/Stans.
Already in the 16th century Seelisberg was visited by pilgrims, then followed the tourists of the 19th and 20th century, which included many a crowned head. The view from this promontory overlooking Lake Lucerne is mind-boggling. Visitors come to Treib where they take the funicular, installed in 1916, that brings them up the mountain to Seelisberg.
Today, this nostalgic journey holds a special treat at dusk: the funicular is slowed down and as it inches down the mountain, fondue is served on the little tables between the banquettes. An accordion player plays old tunes and the view is just as romantic as can be as one slowly descends towards the valley's lights. After coffee and dessert is served on the terrace of the Hotel Treib, the funicular once again ascends to Seelisberg.
For groups of 10-25 persons daily beyond the scheduled timing . Reservations mandatory.
