old town of Schaffhausen impresses with its ornate bay windows, painted house facades and well-preserved medieval buildings. Many of the houses are decorated with facade paintings and stonemasonry. One particular highlight is the
Munot Fortress. The 16th-century fortress towers over the city and offers far-reaching views over Schaffhausen and the River Rhine.
Rhine Falls – Europe’s largest waterfall
The
Rhine Falls are around ten minutes away from Schaffhausen. It is the highlight par excellence when visiting Schaffhausen. Europe’s largest waterfall is an impressive spectacle, 150 metres wide and 23 metres tall. You can experience it from up close on a boat tour or marvel at it from the observation platform.

From Schaffhausen, it is well worth making the
trip to Lake Constance. The
Thurauen Nature Centre is a popular excursion destination. The area around Schaffhausen is also a well-known wine region. In villages such as
Hallau or Wilchingen, you’ll get an insight into the cultivation of Pinot Noir. The small town of
Stein am Rhein is also well worth visiting.
