Ascona’s lakeside promenade
The promenade in Ascona is magnificent! It is
the meeting point for the town and the perfect backdrop for your souvenir photo. You can sit in one of the restaurants or cafés by the lake and take in the views of palm trees, Lake Maggiore and the surrounding mountains. Or simply stroll along the promenade and marvel at the colourful facades of the houses here. Markets are held here on a regular basis. The lakeside promenade is also the venue for the annual JazzAscona, one of the largest jazz festivals in Europe.
Old town of Ascona
Winding alleyways with small shops selling local products, handicrafts and souvenirs. As well as historic buildings and in the middle of it all the Piazza Motta: discover the charming old town and watch all of the hustle and bustle. While sightseeing, be sure not to forget about the church of Santi Pietro e Paolo with its impressive frescoes and baroque architecture.
Around Ascona
From Ascona, you can reach
Locarno in around 15 minutes. This is where you’ll find the start of the
Centovalli Railway, a fantastic panoramic route to the
Centovalli. In this valley, which in turn consists of countless smaller valleys, you will encounter unspoilt nature. By boat, you can reach the
Brissago Islands, where you will be able to visit the Botanical Gardens there. It is also well worth taking a detour to the village of
Brissago. Alternatively: set off on a hike into the
Verzasca Valley or the
Maggia Valley.
