The Source of the Rhine roadcycling route
Overview
Intro
You can discover the source of the Rhine twice within a radius of 270 kilometres. In between you can explore two Alpine passes, deep gorges and the frontiers of three linguistic regions.
Description
In Chur, the trail starts out on secondary roads and leads through the area around Domleschg, a gourmet paradise packed with places of historical interest. From the San Bernardino Pass, a series of exciting hairpin bends will take you down to the Misox valley. The high alpine landscape suddenly takes on a Mediterranean feel and, in reflection of the changes in the natural surroundings, the language changes to Italian. Just before Bellinzona you turn north and head for Biasca and the Lukmanier Pass. After this second climb you will be rewarded with the descent into Disentis and on through the Rhine Gorge, returning to Chur.
The route makes an excellent multi-day tour. You’ll find more information about the individual stages here. Background information about the region and the route has been compiled by Graubünden Holidays.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
