Weggis at a glance
This is Weggis
Weggis is situated in the heart of Switzerland, right by Lake Lucerne. Its location at the foot of the Rigi, its wellness hotels and the many outdoor activities on offer make this idyllic village a popular destination.
Discover Weggis
Start your journey of discovery at the landing stage: with the lake glistening before you, you’ll find cafes and restaurants all around. On the waterfront promenade towards Vitznau, it’s well worth stopping off at the memorial stone for Mark Twain, who lived in Weggis for a time. In the direction of Hertenstein, you can walk past lush gardens where palm trees, chestnut and fig trees thrive, thanks to the mild climate. Tip for hot days: a round trip through Weggis on the Lidobus.
Wellness in Weggis
Sit and enjoy the view of Lake Lucerne in the village square of Weggis: that alone is pure relaxation. You’ll be really pampered in the numerous wellness hotels, with their baths, saunas and spa treatments – most of which have offerings available for day guests. The cable car will take you up to the Mineralbad & Spa Rigi Kaltbad, where you can bathe in spring water with a view of the mountains.
Mountains and cruises
Weggis is an ideal starting point for excursions into the surrounding mountains. Behind you rises the Rigi with its varied hiking routes – one of which leads to the Chänzeli viewing platform. The cable cars and mountain railways to the Pilatus, the Stanserhorn or the Titlis can be reached in an entirely leisurely way by boat. On the fjord-like Lake Lucerne, the round trips on nostalgic paddle steamers are particularly popular.
Around Weggis
Discover the Riviera of Central Switzerland, which includes Vitznau, Gersau and Brunnen. Opposite Weggis on the other side of the lake is the Bürgenstock, with its Hammetschwand lift and the Felsenweg, a beautiful high-altitude cliff path. Of course, it’s also well worth taking a detour to Lucerne, the city with the world-famous Chapel Bridge and many other sights besides.
Experience Weggis for less
As an overnight guest, you’ll receive the Visitor Card Weggis Vitznau Rigi and benefit from free admission to the lido as well as discounts on cable cars and mountain railways, boat day tickets and bike rental. For excursions in the Lucerne-Lake Lucerne region, the Tell Pass is well worthwhile: this gives you free travel on public transport for either two to ten days.
