Königsfelden Abbey (Kloster Königsfelden)
Overview
Intro
A Habsburg place of remembrance
Königsfelden Abbey was founded in 1308 by the royal dowager Elisabeth of Gorizia-Tyrol, on the site where her husband, King Albrecht I of Habsburg, was murdered. The Abbey became a place of remembrance for the king and all deceased Habsburgs. The double abbey with Franciscans and Poor Clares existed until 1529. The stained-glass windows are among the finest works of European glass painting in the High Middle Ages.
