All hikes in Zurich Region

The trail follows the spectacular Albis mountain chain from the Üetliberg to the Albishorn before descending to Ebertswil, where the milk soup stone commemorates the Kappel milk soup of 1529. After Baar, it runs along the old Lorze river to Lake Zug.

The Schauenberg offers magnificent views of the Alps. After idyllic Bichelsee lake, the ridge walk begins, with views into countless valleys. Over Pro Natura’s Alp Ergeten with a pre-Alpine character and extensive farming, to the head of the Hulftegg Pass.

A delightfully scenic stage in the heart of the Zug region. Over upland moors, past countless cherry trees (Zuger kirsch cake!), the vantage point at the Brunegg Alp restaurant and the pretty St. Verena Chapel, to the town of Zug.

Panoramic views towards Lake Zurich and the Alpine foothills accompany hikers along the Albis chain to the Albishorn. In Ebertswil, the milk soup stone commemorates the Kappel milk soup of 1529, an important event in Swiss history. The trail then follows the old Lorze river from Baar to Zug.

Enjoyable hike with superb views along the Albis ridge. Panoramic views from the Black Forest to the northern Jura foothills and the Glarner Alps. Wild garlic in spring. Castle ruins not far from the observation tower take you back to the Middle Ages.

Walking along the southern Pfannenstiel foothills, it’s hard to believe you find yourself amidst one of Switzerland’s most populated agglomerations. Woods, pastures and vineyards adorn the way, followed by a descent over the Meilemer Tobel.

25-m-high steel observation tower on Eschenberg. Along the Töss embankment to Kollbrunn, a part of Zell, well-known for its nativity play «D' Zäller Wiehnacht» (The Zell Christmas). Over sunny, well-farmed slopes to Hotel Gyrenbad with its historic ambiance.

After a demanding climb, the Hochstuckli is worth a detour. Panoramic views of the Mythen and Canton Schwyz. Then a gentle descent to Haggenegg, where the Schwyzer Höhenweg (high-level trail) and the Jakobsweg (Route of St. James) cross paths.

The surroundings change from mountains to the hilly terrain of mittleren Toggenburg. Passing the Regelstein vantage point and the pass village of Ricken, it leads to Atzmännig and on to the stage destination of Chrüzegg.

The lakeside path leads along some of the loveliest Ostschweiz shoreline – and plenty of waterfowl can be observed at the Wurmsbach and Busskirch nature reserves. Several public bathing and sport areas are also discovered underway.

The route from Zug to Cham leads along the shores of the Zugersee lake. A route marked by variety with it's urbane promenades, tranquil woodland and meadow sections and idyllic views of the lake.

Numerous places to take a break or swim are found along the lake shores – and the unspoilt Lachner Horn landscapes and Schmerikon estuary cordially invite you to rest a while. Attractive contrast on this leg is the crossing of the woods by Buchberg.

This route starts in Pfäffikon SZ and leads along the bank of the Seedamm (lake dam) to Rapperswil SG. The section is marked by wonderful far-reaching views over an endless plain with flower-filled fields and meadows as well as the glistening Zurichsee (lake). The ultimate holiday feeling!

The circular route from Zürich Höngg alongside the River Limmat soon leaves the city surroundings for a peaceful natural world. The route leads alongside the water, over the Werdinsel and past the Kloster Fahr (monastery) Relaxation can sometimes be close enough to touch.

The hike from Siebnen to St. Meinrad is uphill. But efforts are rewarded and not only with views of the Obersee. The St. Meinrad Chapel and Inn both make an impression with their long history and stunning location on the Etzelpass.

This route starts at Hausen am Albis by Türlersee lake and leads through the enchanting Säuliamt recreational area to Affoltern am Albis. A beautiful excursion with captivating views into the distance and interesting cultural monuments.

The Erlenbach and Küsnacht Gorge area boasts much natural beauty. Highlights include the waterfall and the huge erratic boulder, Alexander's Stone, a large sandstone rock left over from the Ice Age.

The trail leads from Winterthur through a beautiful pre-Alpine hiking area with rugged valleys, lakes and ridges with wonderful views, crowned by the highest point in Canton Zurich, the Schnebelhorn, and on to Obersee at Rapperswil with its attractive old town.

Gravel banks, footbridges and countless picnic areas line the River Töss between Turbenthal and Sennhof. The hike’s destination is Schloss Kyburg, which towers majestically over the Töss Valley.

The route starts in Grüningen in the Zürcher Oberland and leads through the picturesque Greifensee lake region, partly through a nature reserve and with open views of a fascinating plant, animal and aquatic world.

A delightful hike through landscapes such as those once described by Gottfried Keller. Several climbs offer best views over the lake and surroundings – with the Glarner and Innerschweiz Alps providing a spectacular highlight of their own.

The circular tour around Zürich-Kloten airport is a popular excursion, not least because of the specially created vantage points around the airport areal. This easy route takes you through a wonderful natural world, in places alongside the River Glatt.

The Üetliberg railway (with regular scheduled trains) takes summiteers to Zurich's "own" mountain, 871 meters high. The high-altitude hike following the train trip is also suitable for families; after visiting the restaurant terrace on the Felsenegg, the gondola lift is waiting to take walkers down to Adliswil, where the S-Bahn (train) runs back towards Zurich.

The Lützelsee lake in the Zürcher Oberland provides the region with an extremely popular recreation area. The round tour starts in Hombrechtikon and leads through the lush green landscape alongside the sparkling lake.

This high-level route leads over the popular Üetliberg to Buchenegg affording surprising, breathtaking views of Zurich city, Zurichsee lake and even the Alps. At the same time, it is an oasis of peace in wonderful natural surroundings.

The Thur has been allowed more room to meander before joining the Rhine, resulting in the emergence of new wetlands. After a shaded riverside path, the route leads alongside the agricultural zone at Flaach to the banks of the Rhine and past the Thurauen nature centre to Rüdlingen.

This route leads you through the beautiful and open Unterägeri plain. This path through the verdant landscape with magnificent views of the Zug Oberland mountains and Ägerisee lake is a true delight.

Through the wine country of the river Thur to the sunny slopes of Cholfirst. During this varied hike from the village of Andelfingen to the village of Dachsen, morainic hills with unique views and fertile wine land are discovered on foot.

The path along the embankment begins at Ottenbach, on the border between the cantons of Aargau and Zürich. This elevated path runs alongside the River Reuss to Rottenschwil and reveals magnificent views of a beautiful natural environment.

A tough climb to Stöcklichrüz and a superb high-level hike around the northern end of Sihlsee lake to Einsiedeln. The St. Meinrads Chapel on Etzelpass and the house where Paracelsus was born are popular resting places, not just for pilgrims.

The section from Rapperswil to Schmerikon is a true feast for the eyes. For all who appreciate peaceful, remote paths through idyllic countryside, romantic villages and lush vegetation on the shores of a glistening lake.

The Hüttchopf, located on the west edge of the zoological and botanical nature preserve, offers the best view of the headwaters of the Töss and the hilly world of the Zurich Oberland.

The Rhine Falls are the centrepiece of this circular hike. It starts from Laufen Castle, towering majestically above the Rhine Falls – unperturbed by the immense force of the waters that rage below it. We descend straight to the water's edge, cross the bridge to the other side and start climbing again opposite the castle.

The high Biber valley, the plain between Rothenthurm and Biberbrugg, ranks as an especially beautiful moorland area of national importance. The well-signed moorland path passes through this unique protected moorland (a model for moor conservation in Switzerland).

Starting at the Horgen fountain, the way leads alongside the lake, with numerous possibilities to take a break, a swim or light a fire underway. Highlight on this leg is the Halbinsel Au with its castle, park and natural pond– a real sight to see!
