Via Alpina
Overview
Intro
The eight-hour hike from Weisstannen in St. Gallen to Elm, in the canton of Glarus, offers you magnificent views of the UNESCO World Heritage Site and Tectonic Arena of Sardona.
Description
The hike begins in picturesque Weisstannen in the eponymous valley. The compact village has houses that date back as far as the 15th century. You hike through the forgotten valley along the Seez River. At Walabütz-Untersäss, the hike leads up a stony path to the Foo Pass at 2,223 m. This offers a direct view of the core of the Swiss Tectonic Arena Sardona. The tectonic displacement or upheaval is especially obvious from Piz Sardona to the Tschingelhörner Alps.
You reach Elm first via a cattle trail and then through the forest of Ramin. The village, with its impressive wooden edifices has been awarded the Wakker Prize.
