Jura Crest Trail
Overview
Intro
The first part of this stage is hard going, but worth the effort, as it takes you to the highlight of the tour: the imposing Creux du Van rock arena – Switzerland’s version of the Grand Canyon. Via rolling pastureland, the home of music boxes and music automatons awaits.
Description
This is one of the most important stages of the Jura Crest Trail. It is well worth getting up early in the morning and conquering the demanding climb up the Creux du Van in the first hours of daylight. It is cooler and more enjoyable for hiking, plus the atmosphere on the Creux du Van in the morning fog and sunshine is simply priceless. The landscape around the Swiss version of the Grand Canyon is both unique and fascinating. The Creux du Van is about 1,200 m wide and 500 m deep. The height of the vertical rock face is approximately 160 m, running to an overall length of about 4 km. A popular destination in the Jura.
