Mountain romance high above the Töss Valley
Overview
Intro
Gravel banks, footbridges and countless picnic areas line the River Töss between Turbenthal and Sennhof. The hike’s destination is Schloss Kyburg, which towers majestically over the Töss Valley.
Description
Turbenthal – Rämismühle – Rikon – Kollbrunn – Sennhof – Kyburg
Tall trees line the banks, forming a veritable avenue. High above the Töss on a plateau that offers stunning views of the surrounding area, Schloss Kyburg rises out of the forest. The castle grounds are quite large and can be reached via a steep trail. The hike leads from Turbenthal along the River Töss to Sennhof. From there, the trail is flat for a while before the steep climb to the Kyburg begins.
Schloss Kyburg, which towers over the Töss, was first mentioned in 1027. In 1865 it opened its doors to the public as a castle and art museum, and was the first museum of its kind in Switzerland.
