Experience amazing sensations while learning about local indigenous animals on the Volg Naturena Five-Senses Trails. In German-speaking Switzerland, there are five adventure trails (Fricktal, Seebachtal, Werdenberg, Zugerland, and Seeland), each with eight stations.
These 5 trails involve all five senses. There are all kinds of sensations to be experienced along the way, including hot and cold, loud and quiet as well as the fragrances of nature. Each of the trails has eight stations where you can puzzle over the amazing abilities of the local indigenous wildlife. In Zugerland, listen to the sounds of birdsong and answer such questions as: How many verses are there in the nightingale’s song? How do reptiles regulate their body temperature? In Fricktal (AG) you learn exciting facts about lynxes, squirrels or snakes and lizards. On the Five-Senses Trail near Hüttwilen in the Seebachtal (TG) you learn about sly foxes, butterflies and raccoons. In Werdenberg (SG) the theme includes insects, birds of prey and bats. And in the Seeland (BE) you hear everything about the tactile senses of birds as well as which local forest dwelling animal is a gifted climber.
The 5 Five-Senses trails are circular walks with a walking time of about one hour.
The Five-Senses Trail in Fricktal starts and ends at the former rifle clubhouse at Gipf-Oberfrick(AG). It is a 10-minute walk from the postbus stop at Rösslibrücke to the starting point.
The Seebachtal trail starts and finishes at the Forstwerkhof Kalchrain (TG). Take the postbus line 825 via Frauenfeld-Stein am Rhein to the Hörnliwald stop.
The trail at Werdenberg starts and ends at Lake Werdenberg in Buchs SG. It takes about 20 minutes to walk from Buchs station to the lake.
You reach the Zugerland Five-Senses Trail by bus from Zug via Oberägeri (ZG) to Raten. The trail starts at the Restaurant Raten, Alosen.
The trail in the Seeland (BE) starts and ends at the viewpoint St. Jodel in Ins. From the train station Ins Dorf it takes 15 minutes to get to the start by foot. From the station Ins it takes 30 minutes.
