This is Neuchâtel
Neuchâtel is the French-speaking capital of the canton of the same name. It can be found in the west of Switzerland on
Lake Neuchâtel.
Discover Neuchâtel
Strolling around is what Neuchâtel is all about: first along the lakeshore and through the
Parc des Jeunes-Rives to Quai Osterwald, stopping to take a photo on the Passarelle de l’Utopie. Continue on through the charming
old town and up to the
castle with its views of the city and the lake. Depending on your mood, you can choose to explore the local shops or treat yourself to a city tour on an electric train. Don’t forget to reserve a spot to watch the sunset in one of the bistros by the water.
Old town of Neuchâtel
On Place Pury, with its elegant ochre-yellow buildings, you’ll fell as though you could be in Paris. Start your sightseeing here, crossing the market square and heading into the labyrinth of cobbled alleyways. From here, it’s well worth making a quick detour to the delightful Croix-du-Marché and the Rue de Chavannes with its graffiti. Treat yourself to a break in one of the crêperies or cafés. A little tip: the
chocolateries of Neuchâtel are well-known for their chocolate creations.
Lake Neuchâtel
Vineyards with picturesque villages on the northern shore, and a natural paradises on the southern shore:
Lake Neuchâtel will make you feel as though you’re in the Mediterranean. As a fan of the outdoors, you’ll be in your element, with bike tours, swimming, rowing, sailing and stand-up paddle boarding all on offer. Or you can enjoy a
boat trip to
Estavayer-le-Lac and its
Grande Cariçaie nature reserve.
Around Neuchâtel
The panorama tower on its
local mountain Chaumont offers you magnificent views, is easily accessible thanks to its funicular railway and is a good starting point for hikes in the Jura. What is even more spectacular again is the view down into the 500-metre-deep rock basin of the
Creux du Van natural rock arena. From Noiraigue, a bold trail leads through the varied
Areuse Gorge to Boudry, where you can catch the tram back to Neuchâtel.
