This is the Bernese Oberland
The Bernese Oberland can be found in the southwest of Switzerland. Lake Thun and Lake Brienz,
Interlaken, the Eiger, Mönch,
Jungfrau and the
Aare Valley all come together to make this region one of Switzerland’s most popular excursion destinations.
Discover the Bernese Oberland
From the Swiss capital of
Bern, follow the
River Aare to reach the city of
Thun. This beautiful city with its
castle is considered the gateway to the Bernese Oberland. Interlaken, situated between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz, is another ideal starting point for your outdoor activities. Of course, a trip to the
Jungfraujoch or the
Schilthorn is a real must. Visit the Eiger village of
Grindelwald and the
Lauterbrunnen Valley with its waterfalls. Explore the
Simmental valley with its chalet villages or the
Kandertal valley with
Lake Blausee and
Lake Oeschinen. The top winter sports areas here are Adelboden/Lenk, Grindelwald/Wengen and Gstaad/Zweisimmen with
Glacier 3000.
Lake Thun and Lake Brienz
Treat yourself to sightseeing from on board a boat: over the deep-blue
Lake Thun or the emerald-green
Lake Brienz, and past the
Giessbach Falls. For a bird’s eye view of both lakes, head up the
Harder. Looking for thrills and spills? Nowhere else in the world will you find such a high density of outdoor adventures as here in Interlaken.
Spectacular locations in the Bernese Oberland
Enjoy the once-in-a-lifetime experience of seeing the idyllic mountain landscape of the Bernese Oberland against the incredible panorama of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. Take in the views of the
Aletsch Glacier from the Jungfraujoch. Rowing across Lake Oeschinen, standing in front of the
Staubbach Falls or running through the
Aare Gorge – dreams like this really do come true in the Bernese Oberland.
Around the Bernese Oberland
From the Bernese Oberland, it is well worth taking a detour to Bern with its
UNESCO-listed old town and the River Aare. From
Kandersteg, you can travel through the Lötschberg Tunnel and into
Valais with its 41 four-thousand-metre peaks – one of which is the
Matterhorn. Other highlights from the Bernese Oberland include the panoramic trips from Interlaken to
Montreux on
Lake Geneva or to
Lucerne on
Lake Lucerne.
Experience the Bernese Oberland for less
The
Bernese Oberland Pass is your all-in-one ticket for the region. It allows you to travel freely by train, bus, boat and on numerous cable cars and mountain railways for three to ten days. At certain locations, such as Interlaken, Grindelwald or
Gstaad, you will receive a guest card that offers a number of different benefits when you stay for one night or more.
