This route leads from S-chanf into the Val Trupchun through lush alpine meadows, one of the idyllic side valleys of the Upper Engadin. This varies hike offers a fascinating glimpse of the Upper Engadin’s wildlife and plants.
Description
Enter Val Trupchun, the stag arena of the Alps! The Swiss national park is a very well kept nature reserve where both animals and flora are protected and prosper. The tour starts in S–chanf 1662 metres and from the car park Prasüras at 1677 metres. The mountain path then leads through contoured landscape filled with mixed alpine woodland of larches, firs and pine.
Here live numerous colonies of marmots. The hiking tour is filled great diversity as it leads on to the beauty spot at Val Mela. This vantage point affords views of deer, chamois and ibex. With binoculars the spectacle is even more rewarding. The next stop is Alp Trupchun at 2040m with a further rest and picnic area and a further opportunity to observe the wildlife and plant kingdom.
The return route passes through Val Trupchun along a rushing river. Near Alp Purcher geological fold structures come into view - an impressive example of tectonic formation. The way continues past the park lodge Varusch with its sunny terrace and vantage point.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
