Alpine Panorama Trail
Overview
Intro
A morning of lovely views through the vineyards and wine villages of the Vaud La Côte region, a shady afternoon along the anti-tank obstacles on the Serine stream and in the evening a visit to Prangin Castle and the medieval city of Nyon.
Description
Nyon, situated directly on the lake between Lausanne and Geneva, is surrounded by the vineyards of La Côte. Nyon is known far beyond the Swiss borders for the Paléo Festival, a 6-day celebration of music attended by over 200,000 visitors every year.
However, Nyon’s recognition goes much further back. Castles and museums illustrate the history of the patricians of Nyon. The town was founded by Julius Cesar who had a colony established there. This and much more information is available in the Roman Museum. Castles well worth visiting are located in Prangins, Coppet and Nyon.
The hike starts at the Nyon train station and takes only two hours. Cross the Le Boiron de Nyon creek to get out of the heavy traffic area and continue across the fields to Crans. Next is Céligny, a small community with beautiful old estates. This is where the national Alpine Panorama and the Via Jacobi routes are separating. Today, the large mansion of Château de Bossey from the 18th century with a medieval tower and a magnificent garden is a restaurant, hotel and congress centre.
A short time later, in Bogis-Bossey, you come to the end of today’s hike. The village is located just a few steps from the French border and consists of two parts: Bogis, the main part of the village, and Bossey, a small village near Céligny. The latter is an enclave of Geneva.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
