Fort de Chillon
Overview
Intro
The Fort de Chillon in Veytaux is considered a newcomer among Switzerland’s museums. What used to be a réduit of the Swiss Armed Forces is now an interactive museum with impressive scenography. The world of experience that this has created provides exciting insights into the world of the military.
Built in 1941, the military installation was actively occupied until 1995, before it was opened to the public in 2020. The exhibition immerses visitors in the fascinating history of Fort de Chillon. Using augmented reality and virtual reality, the everyday life and adventures of the soldiers at the time can be experienced up close and true to reality. At the same time, the visitor’s own historical and geographical knowledge is challenged in a playful way.
A short film introduces visitors to Switzerland’s military strategy, which was classified as top secret up until 2001. Thanks to its ideal location directly on Lake Geneva, the fort offers outstanding views of Chillon Castle, where unique photos can be taken from the “no-go zone”.
