Intro
The Alpbach Gorge in the Haslital Valley is one of nature’s jewels and a great experience for seasoned and sure-footed mountain climbers.
Let’s make for the gorge! Reopened in 2008, the Alpbach Gorge between Meiringen and Hasliberg is not for the faint of heart. A breathtaking 30-minute ascent along the rock faces over a babbling stream lets you experience the full force of nature. As some sections are similar to via ferrata and have no railings, you must be sure-footed and have a head for heights. High points along the way are the bright red bridge over the thundering Alpbach and a new red viewing platform that juts out six metres over the edge of the gorge.
It takes 1.5 hours to hike from Meiringen through the gorge to Haselholz, and from there via a regular hiking trail back to Meiringen or to Reuti.
The gorge can be explored starting from the bottom and working your way up. Safety equipment is recommended, especially for children. The gorge should not be entered in wet weather.
Getting there: By public transport or car to Meiringen (valley station for the Meiringen-Hasliberg trains), from there it's a 15-minute walk to the gorge entrance heading towards Schrändli-Reuti.
