Braunwald

Car-free, fog-free, carefree: Anyone who rides the funicular up to snowy Braunwald on a sunny winter’s day understands the talk of a “fairytale world”.
This romantic village high on a sun-soaked terrace really feels like an enchanted place far removed from everyday life. The Gumenbahn lift, for example, is unique: the yellow gondolas alternate with two-seater chairs that face not uphill but sideways, making the most of the gorgeous views. Below lie 32 km of piste, two toboggan runs and a cross-country ski circuit: a small but perfectly formed fairytale winter world, ideal for families.

Top tip

The panorama walk is the highlight of Braunwald’s 25 km of winter paths. You feel on top of the world, with views of the impressive peaks of the Ortstock and Tödi, and as far as the Churfirsten and the Graubünden Alps.
