Mürren

A natural high: Take the Schilthorn cable car up to Mürren, and glide back to another age. The highest village in canton Bern to be inhabited year-round is a secret little world unto itself.
Located on a sunny ledge above the Lauterbrunnen valley, it has unique nostalgic charm, thanks to the wooden façades darkened by the sun, the panelled inns and Art Nouveau hotels. Children play safely in the streets, for this former Walser village is traffic-free. In addition to the outstanding views, winter sports lovers enjoy 53 km of superbly prepared piste, as well as several toboggan runs.

Top tip

A game of curling, with family or friends, can be terrific fun. In Mürren, curling is especially pleasurable, in the sunshine on the open ice rink in the village, with clear views of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau.
