Wengen

A much-loved classic: This car-free village at the foot of the Lauberhorn lies on a sunny sheltered terrace 400 m above Lauterbrunnen.
Since 1893, the only way up has been on the historic Wengernalp Railway. The fresh mountain air and plentiful sunshine attract many nonskiers – as well as sporty types, for Wengen lies at the heart of the Jungfrau Region, one of the most attractive ski areas in Switzerland. With a practice slope in the middle of the village, beginners and children are at home here too. It’s little surprise: Wengen has known what makes winter sports lovers happy for more than 150 years.

Top tip

Lauberhorn live: after the famous race in January, the most spectacular racing course in the Alps is open to any skier and snowboarder who dares – complete with timed section and speed indicator at the Hanneggschuss.
