Rickety footbridges, narrow bridges, almost bottomless gorges: The mule trail over the Splügen pass was nothing for the faint-hearted – even though it ranked among the most important and best developed transit routes across the Alps for hundreds of years. Today, the route is safe and wide, but no less impressive: Scenic landmarks such as the Viamala and cultural attractions in the form of the Romanesque ceiling paintings in the church in Zillis complement one another to provide experiences for all the senses.
