Schilthorn Cableway works for the future
Intro
Schilthorn Cableway are aware of the local business and use local products and suppliers wherever possible. This goes for gastronomy products like cheese, bread and meat, but also for companies and partners in their daily business.
At Piz Gloria you find hearty dishes, and a large selection of local products. Like local cheese and bread from the local bakery in Lauterbrunnen on the popular James Bond Brunch buffet. For the famous James Bond Burger, they use a local produced patty from the butcher in Interlaken.
Intro
All goods, but also all the people living and visiting Mürren, must get to village as it’s car-free – this is where Schilthorn Cableway’s duty as the local public-transportation provider comes in place.
Transportation of goods is organized via the cableway so are the “left-overs” as the cable car is the first part of the recycling management of the village. But they also connect the village to the valley and bring students to school, employees to their jobs, tourists to their hotels and even calves to their barns. Schilthorn Cableway takes care of the village life, so to say.

The energy Schilthorn Cableway uses comes from 100% waterpower of the Lauterbrunnen Valley by the local electricity provider. This waterpower produces the energy to bring tourists to the top of Mount Schilthorn and the entire network runs on waterpower.
The highlight of the visit to the summit is a meal in the revolving 360° restaurant “Piz Gloria” which served as the film location of the 1969 James Bond Movie “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service”. The restaurant is turning around its own axis and offers the view of the stunning panorama of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau peaks.
2016/2017 the building was renovated - not only for a fresh make-over, but also for electricity effectiveness. With the renovation, the energy consumption was reduced by 75%.
Fun Fact: The James Bond restrooms on the Piz Gloria, that even won the World Tourism Toilet Award, work fully on rain-water and without external water supply.
In the future Schilthorn Cableway are committing to a new energy management.
They are working on a “hybrid system” and a new cable-car project; Schilthornbahn 20XX - a commitment to a sustainable future, to save power with a hybrid-battery system where the batteries are fed by breaking-energy of the cable-car and by solar-panels on the Birg middle station.
